Putrajaya to study law on banning import of e-waste, says Zuraida

PENANG can ban the import of e-waste at the state level but will have to consult the Housing and Local Government Ministry.

Its minister, Zuraida Kamaruddin, said the ministry will have to study the law first.

“If needs be, then, they (Penang) will have apply and let us study it,” she said after launching Tun Fatimah Hashim Lead Conference in Putrajaya today.

Zuraida was responding to Penang’s plans to ban the import of e-waste and post-consumer plastic waste to control the waste-processing industry.

State environment exco Phee Boon Poh said Penang has to say “no” to municipal waste from outside as there were more than 200 factories illegally processing recycled plastic in the state. – AFP, November 12, 2018.
