THE Penang chief minister and 10 state executive councillors are contributing RM81,159.63 to Tabung Harapan Malaysia.

The money is from the 10% deductions made to their basic salaries from June to this month.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow told reporters at a press conference at the state assembly today that the money will be channelled to the fund after his announcement.

“We want to fulfil the promise we made on May 31 to help the country pay the RM1 trillion debt.

“We will send the money after this, considering that the federal government intends to close the fund on December 31,” he said.

Tabung Harapan, which was set up by the Pakatan Harapan on May 30 to allow Malaysians to donate to help the country pay off its RM1 trillion debt, will close on December 31.

The fund had collected about RM197.76 million as of 3pm last Friday. – November 12, 2018.
