PKR deputy president candidate Rafizi Ramli has won the Keningau re-poll – by just three votes.

The revote, held at the Keningau Sports Complex badminton court hall, went smoothly today, with the party’s central election committee (JPP) announcing the end of voting at 4.30pm.

Rafizi got 624 votes to rival Mohamed Azmin Ali’s 621. Some 2,000 PKR members turned up to cast their ballots, making for a voter turnout of 38%.

Before JPP ordered the revote three days ago, incumbent deputy president Azmin had won Keningau with 381 votes against Rafizi’s 203.

The polls last week saw a fracas breaking out after Rafizi supporters tried forcing their way into the polling station at the last minute.

Rafizi said he was almost attacked by a man, and a police report has been lodged.

For today’s revote, JPP separated the queues for supporters of both camps, to prevent another untoward incident from happening.

“It’s much better to do it this way. The supporters should not mix while they are queuing. That was how the scuffle happened,” said Sabah PKR vice-chairman Kenny Chua.

Rafizi’s win today does little to boost his chances as Azmin is far ahead in the overall race, leading by some 3,000 votes.

In Sabah, Azmin has won Kalabakan, Libaran, Sandakan, Sepanggar, Beaufort, Kota Belud, Beluran, Putatan, Kudat, Papar, Silam, Ranau, Tenom and Kinabatangan.

Rafizi has taken Kota Marudu, Kota Kinabalu, Batu Sapi, Tuaran, Sipitang, Kimanis, Penampang and Semporna, in addition to Keningau.

The Pensiangan and Tawau divisions will conduct a revote tomorrow. – November 10, 2018.
