THE Federal Territories Ministry and Kuala Lumpur City Hall are mulling plans to develop covered walkways at low-cost People’s Housing Programme (PPR) flats to ensure residents’ safety.
Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad said this was one way to resolve incidents of objects falling from upper floors hitting pedestrians at the flats.
“We are still looking into it and looking for solutions,” he said after meeting 11 MPs from Kuala Lumpur at Kuala Lumpur City Hall today.
He was commenting on a recent case in PPR Gombak Setia, where 19-year-old Muhammad Ikmal Abduk Razak had been struck by a falling bicycle wheel on Sunday. He received 15 stitches on the head.
Khalid said the culprit did not deserve to live there if the person was a resident of the flat.
Kuala Lumpur Mayor Nur Hisham Ahmad Dahlan said City Hall would also hold a special briefing with all PPR flats’ residents on the do’s and dont’s of living at the compounds.
“We will call everyone soon to find solutions as these incidents have become too rampant.
“We are looking into the covered walkway solution. That’s why we have to look at it on a case-by-case basis,” he said.
Earlier this year, 15-year-old S. Satiswaran was killed at the Pantai Dalam PPR flats after being hit by a chair thrown from the upper floors.
The authorities have yet to identify the culprits behind these two cases. – November 7, 2018.
