MONEY collected by Tabung Harapan would be used to pay Malaysia’s debts, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The prime minister said the Pakatan Harapan would use the funds prudently to pay off the debts inherited from the previous Barisan Nasional government.
“The money will serve no other purpose then to help the government resolve financial problems and we will use this money as wisely as possible,” Dr Mahathir told reporters in a press conference at Parliament.
He said the Pakatan Harapan government was committed to balancing the debt and earnings ratio which was impossible to do for the time being.
“Well, we want to balance the book, but sometimes the book can’t be balanced.”
Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng tabled the budget today which totalled to RM314.55 billion.
He has announced that Tabung Harapan collection will end December 31. – November 2, 2018.
