Report the culprits and we'll go after them, Dr Mahathir tells Najib

We are looking for more than the famous pink diamond; we are also looking for a lot of lost money and jewellery and handbags, says Dr Mahathir Mohamad (seated, centre), at a press conference at Bersatu headquarters, yesterday night. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Najjua Zulkefli, October 27, 2018.

PRIME Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad told his predecessor Najib Razak to go to the police if he felt investigators should go after people other than Low Taek Jho for allegedly stealing from 1Malaysian Development Bhd.

The Bersatu chairman was responding to Najib’s interview with Al Jazeera today, in which he had urged investigators not to limit the probe to Jho Low, as the Malaysian financier is known, but to extend it to “international figures” that were involved in the scheme.

“Okay, tell him to make a report and then we will go after them,” Dr Mahathir told reporters in a press conference yesterday night.

Najib had told Al Jazeera that all the culprits must be investigated so as to find out where the money had gone.

“Fine… let them do their work but don’t just stop at Jho Low. Get others who are involved as well because there are other international figures who probably are involved. They must also be
investigated.

“We want to know where the money flowed to. And who really benefited from the whole 1MDB issue. I would like to know, too,” he told reporter Mary Ann Jolley.

She had asked him to comment on the investigations into the goings-on at 1MDB that were currently under way in six countries, as well as the famous US$27 million (RM112 million) pink diamond, said to be bought with stolen 1MDB funds, that was presented to his wife.

Dr Mahathir said the Pakatan Harapan government was looking to recover more than just the pink diamond from Najib and his family.

“Of course we are looking for a lot of lost money and jewellery and handbags. We are looking for them,” he said.

He warned that foreign parties involved in dubious dealings involving Malaysia’s assets would be prosecuted.

“Well, we find it difficult to impose laws on people in other countries. But if they have committed a crime in Malaysia that affects Malaysians or Malaysian money, when they come here, we will arrest them. – October 27, 2018.

  • This 1MDB affair really is mind-boggling! Apart from various conjecture, hypothesis, and accusations, will we ever know the complete truth?..

  • I am sure the whole truth will eventually come from M01, the mastermind of the scandal. It is alright to bide the time as UMNO will be tortured and die off together.

  • There are enough of evidences to pin down Najib and hang him off!!!!. Why deliberately dilly dally on the 1MDB debacles. Why worry about his cohorts as all will fall in like dominoes when the main guy are chopped. Strange that it is almost similar scene act in the murder of Altantulya where Azilah is in the slammer while all the focus was for Sirul in down under. Seem that PH likes to dwell on it for ultimate glory and stringing up the rakyat along until the next election. We have better things to do and the country drastic priority needs is all the social and economy revival. Enough of Najib and Jho low and all the Umno scums. We do not need to be bogged down with all this irrelevance and show mastery. Get them and finish it fast .
