SABAH Police Commissioner Omar Mammah today warned those looking to make trouble at the Kota Kinabalu High Court on Thursday, when it begins its hearing into a suit over the chief minister’s post.

He said police had learned that groups from opposing parties Warisan and Sabah Umno planned to gather at the court.

He also said police had received a tip-off that a group will be gathering at the State Administrative Building near Likas, some 10 minutes from the Court Complex near Karamunsing.

The High Court will hear oral submissions from both Warisan and Sabah Umno, both of which are laying claim over the chief minister’s post.

“Those planning to gather at the court must not disrupt the court process, jeopardise the safety of the public or do anything that is against the law.

“They should not incite any provocations against each other. We don’t want any untoward incidents at the court. If that happens, the police will not hesitate to make arrests,” he said after visiting the Kota Kinabalu police station today.

A decision on an originating summons over the chief minister’s dispute will not be made on Thursday, as had been reported by a news portal yesterday, but the court will hear oral submissions and arguments from both parties.

Former chief minister Musa Aman is challenging the validity of Warisan president Shafie Apdal’s appointment by Sabah governor Juhar Mahiruddin as chief minister following the May 9 general election.

Meanwhile, Omar said the court complex would be off limits to protesters, and police will also beef up security in and outside the compound. – October 23, 2018.
