EFFORTS to find fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho should not be undertaken in a personal capacity as it involves two countries, said Khairy Jamaluddin.

The Rembau MP said the search involved cooperation between China – where Jho Low is believed to be in hiding – and Malaysia, as well as international laws related to such matters.

”(It) should not be a personal effort. It must be done between both countries,” he said at the Parliament lobby today.

Yesterday, Hishammuddin Hussein had offered to use his Beijing connections to look for Jho Low.

He said the efforts would be made in his own personal capacity and not on the Malaysian government’s behalf,  as he had long wanted to know the truth about the sovereign wealth fund.

Khairy said Hishammuddin’s offer was “interesting” and hoped that the former defence minister could volunteer information on Low if he had any.

“It was an interesting statement from Hishammuddin to look for Jho Low but if he has any information, I hope (he) can give it to the government because that is the best way to bring back (Low), who is needed for an investigation,” added Khairy.

Malaysia has filed criminal charges for money laundering against Low as well as his father, Low Hock Peng, over money allegedly stolen from 1Malaysia Development Bhd.

Low had said that he would not surrender himself for questioning to Malaysian authorities, claiming that he would not be judged fairly as he was a victim of “trial by media”. – October 23, 2018.
