ARMED forces personel are forbidden from voting in the PKR party elections, said army veterans.
National Patriots Association (Patriot) communications director Captain Wong Ang Peng said that in keeping with the military tradition of remaining apolitical and serving the goverment of the day, its personnel cannot join political parties.
Wong was responding to a Malaysiakini report in which PKR leadership council member Elizabeth Wong had said she has submitted proof that those suspected of being military personnel had voted in the PKR party elections.
She said two sets of documents, including attachments, had been submitted to Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu’s office, and a copy submitted to PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
Yesterday, Wong said that 30 people were prevented from voting in the Petaling Jaya Utara PKR division after they were found to be carrying military identity cards.
The army veteran said that if this was found to be true, investigations must be undertaken.
“There are some who are so desperate to win that they could have used the identification documents of army personnel to vote.”
PKR is currently holding divisional and national leadership elections throughout the country. The polls, which began on September 22, will end on November 10. – October 23, 2018.
