THE search team at the Paya Terubong landslide has covered 80% of the area after four days of operations, Penang Fire and Rescue Department deputy chief Mohamad Shoki Hamzah said.
Canine units have been deployed to sniff out victims at the 0.9ha site, he said.
“We are searching every inch of the site, digging right down to the bottom. We have covered 80% so far,” Shoki told a press conference this afternoon.
“We are now still looking for two victims, but we fear there may be more, like how we found the body of a man, who was not reported missing, yesterday.
“We urge friends and families to report to the authorities if they know of someone missing in the landslide.”
Shoki said the body of Indonesian Subaeri, who was found around noon today, was buried 1.9m deep.
He also said the canine unit found two dead cats today in the landslide.
The fatal landslide happened last Friday afternoon at the construction site of the Paya Terubong pair road, killing several foreign labourers.
The rescue team has found eight bodies so far.
Four people escaped with injuries. No Malaysians were killed or injured in the landslide. – October 22, 2018.
