SABAH’S ruling parties are showing signs of discord over Parti Warisan Sabah’s alleged “monopolisation” of political appointments in the five month-old state government.

Sabah DAP recently protested over the appointment of Warisan members as community development leaders (PPM) for Bingkor and Keningau.

Sources told The Malaysian Insight these Warisan members did not turn up to accept their appointments at a ceremony on October 3.

A source noted the Kiulu and Kuala Penyu PPM failed to make themselves present following opposition from the grassroots leaders in the constituencies.

Warisan’s so-called monopolisation of appointments is seen to extend to the local councillors and heads of government-linked entities posts.

More recently, the Penampang branch of United Pasok Momogun (Upko) hit out at Warisan for failing to include a party representative on the local government advisory board.

Upko president Wilfred Madius Tangau vowed to discuss the the unfair distribution of political appointments with Sabah Chief Minister and Warisan president Mohd Shafie Apdal.

“Yes, there has been a lot of unhappiness, I think not only in Upko but also our friends in Pakatan Harapan.

“What we at Upko cannot accept is when people from the grassroots (non-Upko members) accuse us of not being part of the state government.

“I try to remind these friends that while we did not join Warisan-PH, we however formed the state government with Warisan-PH,” he said.

The problem persisted despite the many reminders on power sharing from the chief minister himself, Tangau said.

“This has resulted in growing dissatisfaction among party grassroots members in many divisions in Penampang, Kudat, Sandakan, and Semporna,” he said.

The Warisan-led Sabah government has yet to disclose the appointments to public office, including in the state GLCs.

When asked, Shafie said he was not delaying the announcement but awaiting the endorsement of the head of state, Juhar Mahiruddin, who was on a pilgrimage to Mecca. – October 21, 2018.
