THE Fire and Rescue Department has received reports that two more foreigners may be buried following the landslide in Paya Terubong, Penang.

The department’s Penang chief commissioner Saadon Mokhtar said they received the report from friends of the missing persons at 5pm.

“They are both Bangladeshis. We believe it is possible they may be buried. They may or may not be workers at the site.

“We will deploy the canine unit again to the disaster site,” he told reporters tonight.

The latest missing persons report means there are now five people still missing since the landslide at the road construction site early yesterday afternoon.

So far, four bodies have been recovered while three people escaped with injuries.

Saadon also said the search had been called off at 7pm due to bad light and soil movements.

He said the department will seek advice from the Mineral and Geoscience Department on the soil movement issue.

“We will continue the search at 8am tomorrow if there are no more soil movement risks,” he said. – October 20, 2018.
