Two contract workers at a housing construction site in Kota Samarahan, near Kuching, were crushed to death by the boom of a crane that had toppled over this afternoon.

The Fire and Rescue Department said two excavators that were on site were used to lift the boom of the crane so that the bodies of the victims could be extricated.

The incident occurred at 3pm in Taman Capital Tanjung Tuang.

Police said the dead workers were Muhammad Bake, 49, of Kampung Melayu, Kota Samarahan, and Helen Suma Gilbert of Kampung Moyan Lidang, Asajaya.

Police investigating the incident said the ground softened by the afternoon shower could have cause the crane to topple over. – August 11, 2017.
