TOURISM, Arts and Culture Minister Mohammadin Ketapi rubbished claims he used public funds to pay for the expenses of his family accompanying him on an official visit to Singapore.
Mohammadin dismissed as “baseless” the allegations that surfaced on a blog last night suggesting that the Silam MP was abusing federal funding by bringing his family along on recent working trips to Singapore and Brunei.
“Very unfounded and baseless allegations. The remark is ill-intentioned,” he said today.
Airline tickets from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore bearing the names of Mohammaddin’s wife and daughter were also published on the blog, which cited ministry sources as saying the minister went on a spending spree and skipped official functions during the trip.
The business class tickets were dated October 4.
The blog also suggested the ministry paid some of his family’s expenses while in Singapore.
“The tickets for my wife and daughter to Singapore were paid for by me – alone, using my own money.
“But I’ve never been to Brunei,” Mohammadin said.
He said he would report the blog to police.
On October 12, Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali announced that ministers could no longer bring their families and personal entourage on short working trips. – October 19, 2018.
