ANWAR Ibrahim yesterday urged PKR members not to pick camps but select the best candidates during the party polls.
The PKR president-elect said he doesn’t care about teams competing for the various positions in the party.
“People have asked why I don’t care about the teams (contesting). I only care about the members selecting the right candidates.
“If the members follow the teams, then they are half-blind and illiterate,” he said at the Pidato New Malaysia programme in Shah Alam last night.
Incumbent deputy president Azmin Ali, who is also economic affairs minister, is going up against former Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli in the party elections.
Azmin is leading with 9,337 votes in Selangor, according to unofficial results, while Rafizi has 8,562 votes.
The first phase of the elections in the state yesterday involved nine of the 22 branches. The state has the highest number of voters with 249,850 members.
The Port Dickson MP said members should also not follow blindly leaders of the teams.
“But it’s not wrong (to choose who they want). It is the members’ right and I won’t question it.”
Anwar added that the members should choose a candidate who has principals, clear idealism and able to help the leadership. – October 19, 2018.
