NAJIB Razak has refuted claims that the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) administration was wasteful as this was not in any way reflected in the Mid-Term Review of the 11th Malaysia Plan which was presented today.
He said some of the statements made by the current government were just “labels” as they were not supported by data presented in the review.
“When we see in the book, the government debt to GDP had decreased from 54% to 50%.
“Therefore, how can we have been wasteful if our debt had decreased,” he told reporters at the parliament lobby today.
Najib said the plan did not stress on matters that the previous BN government had prioritised such as issues regarding public transportation.
He said this was important as it involved connectivity, adding that the current government also lacked details on development measures to narrow the gap between states.
“There is a shortage of details on how we can achieve those objectives although we agree to them.”
He also said the most “glaring” thing regarding the review was the absence of any mention of the promises made by the Pakatan Harapan government ahead of the general election.
He said this showed that the government would not keep to its promises.
“That includes toll abolishment, (reducing) petrol prices, PTPTN and others,” said Najib. – October 18, 2018.
