Sabah futsal player struck by lightning dies

A Sabah futsal player has died after being struck by lightning during a match between Sabah and Terengganu at the Bukit Jalil National Sports Complex on October 13. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, October 18, 2018.

THE Sabah futsal player who was in critical condition after being struck by lightning during a match in Bukit Jalil five days ago has died.

Faisal Ali was struck by lightning along with a teammate and a female player during the Liga Sukan Untuk Semua on October 13.

It happened during a match between Sabah and Terengganu at the Bukit Jalil National Sports Complex.

His teammate was identified as Abdul Wahid Habib Abdullah.

Both players were from Tawau, Sabah.

The female victim, identified as Nurr Izati Kamsani, was playing for Terengganu. She is said to be in semi-critical condition.

All of them were taken to the University Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre in Cheras, Selangor.

It was understood that the match official had earlier ordered the game to continue despite heavy rain.

The Youth and Sports Ministry is now making arrangements to send Faisal’s body home. – October 18, 2018.
