THE International Trade and Industries Ministry secured for Malaysia RM806 million’s worth of Japanese investments over four days on a trade mission to Tokyo and Osaka last week.
A 91 member-delegation took part in the mission led by minister Darell Leiking, who also paid his Japanese counterpert, Trade, Economy and Industry Minister Hiroshige Seko a courtesy call
It was Leiking’s first foreign trade mission, Miti said in a statement, today.
The delegates were state excos of Johor, Malacca, Terengganu and Penang, as well as representatives of government agencies in the same states as well as Sabah, Sarawak, Perak, Kedah and Selangor.
Besides seminars, the delegates attended 203 business meetings in Tokyo and 125 in Osaka, largely to discuss petrochemical, logistics, medical devices, electronics and furniture trade potential.
Among the companies that have decided to invest in Malaysia is Daiwa House Industries (RM74 million) from Tokyo, Japan.
The company plans to start a logistics facility with cold storage services.
Specialist medical equipment supplier, Japan Lifeline Co. will invest RM80 million in its first offshore factory at the Penang Science Park.
Daikin Industries from Osaka will invest RM355 million in a factory in Malaysia, and finally, Dai-Ichi Co will spend RM297 million on a new facility in Taman Nusa Jaya in Johor Baru. – October 18, 2018.
