THE Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) public inquiry into missing activist Amri Che Mat and Pastor Raymond Koh resumes today.

The inquiry into Koh’s case will resume with DSP Supari Muhammad taking the witness stand.

Early last month, the inquiry heard that the authorities had no clue as to how three photographs of Koh, along with his car’s registration plate, ended up in a suspected human trafficker’s house in Pengkalan Hulu, Perak.

Officers found the photos and licence plate, bearing the registration number “ST5515D”, last year during a raid on the house, located hundreds of kilometres from where Koh was abducted.

Suhakam commissioner Mah Weng Kwai had asked federal Criminal Investigation Department deputy director Huzir Mohamed how the photos ended up in the house of a suspect who had been shot dead by police.

Huzir said he did not know how the pictures ended up in the house.

Koh was abducted in Petaling Jaya on February 13 last year by about 15 men in three black SUVs.

The abduction was caught on closed-circuit television cameras, and has been described as a well-coordinated operation.

The inquiry will also hear from Amri’s family coordinator, Sheryll Stothard, who has been recalled to confirm that she had shot a video at the site where the Perlis Hope founder went missing in 2016.

The video will be submitted to the panel.

The Suhakam inquiry seeks to determine whether the disappearance of Koh, Amri, as well as Pastor Joshua Hilmy and his wife, Ruth, are cases of enforced disappearance sanctioned by the state.

The Malaysian Insight brings you live updates of the hearing:

3.45pm: Mah asks Supari if there is any evidence that Koh was smuggled into Thailand.

Supari says there is a possibility that Koh was smuggled by a group in southern Thailand, but there is no proof of this.

Mah asks Supari what happened to the four suspects arrested by police in connection to Koh’s disappearance.

Supari says they were released on bail, and they have no connection to the case.

He says police had thought they could get information from the four, but they did not get anything.

Supari says there was insufficient evidence to charge the four.

The inquiry ends, and will resume on October 15.

3.35pm: Comissioner Mah Weng Kwai asks about the status of Uber driver Lam Chang Nam, who had been charged with extorting Koh’s son, Jonathan.

Supari says the case will be mentioned in November.

Mah asks Supari where are the photos of Koh and his vehicle’s number plate, which were found at a trafficker’s house in Pengkalan Hulu.

Supari says the items are in his possession.

Mah asks Supari again why the photos of Koh were at the trafficker’s house.

Supari says his assumption is that the suspect had connections to the person who could have taken Koh.

He says that is a possibility, as Pengkalan Hulu is near Thailand, and they could be involved in human trafficking.

3.25pm: Philip asks Supari if there has been a directive for him not to get involved.

Supari says there is no such directive.

Philip asks who is the the most senior officer who can inform Koh’s wife Susanna Liew on the latest developments on the case. He says police have not communicated with Liew even though he has written two letters to the police since since June 11.

Supari says it is SAC Fadzil’s case.

Philip asks if the task force is still in existence.

Supari says SAC Fadzil is still heading it.

Philip says the Koh family are disappointed and they hope police will brief them on the case.

Supari says there has been no progress on the case.

3.15pm: Philip asks Supari if he has any updates on Koh’s case.

He asks if the special task force is still investigating the case.

Supari says the investigation is ongoing.

Philip asks Supari if police are investigating Amri’s wife Norhayati Ariffin’s claims that police were involved in her husband’s abduction.

Supari says he is not involved in the case of Norhayati’s claims. He says Perlis inspector Khor is in charge of the case.

3pm: DSP Supari Muhammad is called to the witness stand.

Amri’s family lawyer Philip Koh asks Supari why he said in his testimony to the inquiry previously that there was only one CCTV recording of Koh’s case.

Supari says there are other recordings but none shows anything connected to Koh’s abduction.

He says police have found that the number plates of the vehicles in the abduction are not registered.

2.45pm: Police observers inform the panel they have located Saiful Adfzan, the restaurant onwer in Perlis who claimed to have witnessed Amri’s abduction.

Police say Saiful has agreed to attend the hearing and ask Suhakam to issue a subpoena for Saiful which they will give to him. – October 10, 2018.
