SABAHAN Ahmad Shah Hussain Tambakau has been appointed as Tourism Malaysia chairman, replacing businessman Siew Ka Wai, the owner of Redberry Media Group.
Ahmad Shah was appointed to the post on July 20 by the federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Mohammadin Ketapi, a fellow Sabahan and Silam MP.
Ahmad Shah was former Keningau MP from 1982 until 1986 and former deputy federal territory minister.
He also contested in the 13th general election in the Bingkor state seat on a PKR ticket but lost to Jeffrey Kitingan.
Siew was appointed as the tourism board chairman on September 21, 2016 by the former federal minister Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.
Siew, who is also the managing director of Ancom Bhd and the Redberry group of companies, is said to be close to former prime minister Najib Razak.
The Tourism Malaysia website now lists Ahmad Shah as its chairman. β October 9, 2018.
