12 cops nabbed for soliciting bribes

TWELVE police officers stationed in Kota Belud, Sabah, have been remanded for seven days for soliciting bribes.

They were alleged to have collected daily, weekly and monthly payments from drug pushers and abusers from 2014 to June this year.

The 11 police officers and one retired inspector will spend the next seven days being questioned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The officers were handed a 7-day remand by magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie at the Kota Kinabalu magistrates’ court today .

According to MACC prosecuting officer Mohd Faliq Basiruddin, the men were arrested yesterday in various locations in Sabah, with one in Sibu, Sarawak.

The case is being investigated under Section 17(A) of the MACC Act 2009.

Offenders can be jailed up to 20 years and fined five times the bribe amount or a minimum RM10,000 upon conviction. – October 9, 2018.
