EXPLAIN your plans for Port Dickson instead of lodging police reports against me, Pakatan Harapan candidate Anwar Ibrahim told independent candidate Stevie Chan today.

Anwar also said his development pledges for the parliamentary constituency had no links to the Pakatan Harapan government.

“My pledges have nothing to do with the government. Let him (Chan) lodge whatever reports,” Anwar told reporters in Port Dickson.

“He must (first) explain what he wants to do for Port Dickson. What can he do to help the people here,” added the incoming PKR president.

He was referring to a police report lodged by Chan against Anwar this morning for allegedly bribing voters in the Port Dickson by-election.

The social media personality alleged that Anwar broke two laws under the Election Offences Act 1954, which prohibits candidates from promising to procure benefits for voters.

Chan said Anwar committed the offences on September 30 and October 4, by promising to build a five-star hotel and launch a free education programme in the federal constituency during his campaign rounds.

“By informing the voters on programmes/projects which have been obtained and the sponsorship of online tuition for students in Port Dickson for free, we believe that Anwar has contravened Section 10(a) and (b) of the Election Offences Act, which is related to bribery,” he said in a statement today.

The by-election on October 13 is a seven-cornered fight with five independents in the ring – Chan, former Negri Sembilan menteri besar Isa Samad, Saiful Bukhari Azlan, Lau Seck Yan and Kan Chee Yuen. The other candidate is PAS’ Mohd Nazari Mokhtar.

The Port Dickson by-election was called after its first-time MP Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, vacated the seat to allow Anwar to contest to make his return to Parliament. – October 8, 2018.
