Rosmah in court to face money laundering charges

ROSMAH Mansor was this morning brought to the Kuala Lumpur sessions court, where she is expected to be charged with multiple counts of money laundering in relation to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal.

The 66-year-old wife of former prime minister Najib Razak, who spent the night in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission lock-up in Putrajaya, was clad in an orange baju kurung and headscarf. She was not in handcuffs.

She arrived at the Kuala Lumpur court complex in Jalan Duta at 8.27am in a black Vellfire.

MACC, in a statement yesterday, said she faces charges under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

She was first hauled up by the anti-graft agency on June 5, to give her statement as part of the probe into SRC International Sdn Bhd, a former subsidiary of 1MDB. She was questioned again, for 13 hours, last week.

Rosmah was called in yesterday, and was arrested in the afternoon.

Najib, too, is at the Kuala Lumpur court complex this morning for case management. He faces a slew of criminal breach of trust, power abuse and money laundering charges in relation to 1MDB funds.

He arrived at 8.40am in a black Perdana, accompanied by a bodyguard.

Najib spent a moment with his wife at the sessions court before leaving for another courtroom for his case management.

Former judge Gopal Sri Ram is prosecuting in Rosmah’s case. He is assisted by deputy public prosecutor Akram Garib and four other DPPs.

Rosmah is represented by K. Kumaraendran and Geethan Ram Vincent, assisted by five other lawyers.
