Ramadan in Kuala Lumpur

Afif Abd Halim

THE annual buzz of bazaar Ramadan is back. Kuala Lumpur is alive with the sights, smells and sounds of the month-long festival.

From an aerial view of the bustling bazaar Ramadan in Melawati and Putrajaya, the vibrant hues of thousands of tents give a glimpse of the festivity of the holy month.

Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, the busiest street in Kuala Lumpur, becomes a hub of activity during Ramadan: people buying food to break their fast, shoppers throng shopping centres and colourful stalls selling everything from traditional delicacies to the latest fashion items.

The vibrant atmosphere is a testament to the unity and togetherness that Ramadan brings, with people of all ages and backgrounds coming together to celebrate.

As the sun sets, the city is transformed into a beautiful spectacle of lights and activity. Many people choose to break their fast at Dataran Merdeka to show the joy and excitement of the evening.

Families, friends and strangers gather to break their fast together, sharing food and laughter. The community comes together in a spirit of generosity and compassion, with everyone looking out for each other. – April 2, 2023.
