NEW Year celebrations are cancelled across Peninsular Malaysia as waves of floods, triggered by seasonal heavy rains, displace tens of thousands of people in six states.
Downpours on the December 18 weekend left large parts of the country submerged, in some cases up to the roof.
In Shah Alam and Hulu Langat in Selangor, many sought safety on the rooftops, where they were stranded for days before they were rescued. Others saw their homes swept away in the deluge.
In Karak and Bentong in Pahang, floodwaters carried logs from the forest into town, where they smashed into homes. Forestry officials denied there were logging activities in those areas. – January 1, 2022.
