STEVIE Chan Keng Leong, who is contesting in the upcoming Port Dickson by-election, said he wants to represent everyone in the country, not only the people in the constituency.

The 51-year-old social media personality, who is contesting as an independent candidate, said this was because he believed that the people had voted against political arrogance, nepotism and politicians who put their personal interest above the people’s interest in the 14th general election.

“I want to be an independent voice in Parliament representing as many common interests of the people, not only in Port Dickson but all of Malaysia,” he said in a statement today.

Chan said he believed the Federal Constitution should be defended and respected by all parties.

“I also understand that Bumiputera rights have been enshrined in the Federal Constitution and are protected by the Malay rulers and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” he said.

He said that the poor, marginalised and less fortunate should always be assisted regardless of race and religion.

Education was the best form of investment to improve social mobility and should be made free, he added.

The by-election was called following the resignation of its MP Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, 68, of PKR, on September 12 to pave the way for PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim to contest the seat and become an MP.
