FOR a long time, bigger was better when it came to cows. But in Switzerland, farmers are trying to reverse the trend by breeding smaller cows, as they feel the animals have grown too heavy, too voracious – and simply too big.
“Many stables were built 25 or 30 years ago according to the animals’ size at that time,” said Michael Schwarzenberger, who is part of an advocacy group called New Swiss Cow.
