Molest suspect identified, police say

PENANG police say the suspect who molested a part time waitress on July 6 has been positively identified.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar said the investigation papers would be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor on Monday.

“We have collected all evidence in the case such as clothes. The identification parade is positive.

“Statements from witnesses, including the family members of the victim had been taken. We are analysing the CCTV recordings also,” he told the media in a WhatsApp message today.

Earlier this morning, the police released the 50-year-old suspect, who is the village security and development committee (JKKK) chairman in Paya Terubong, on police bail.

He was arrested on Thursday after he turned himself in. He was remanded for two days until today.

The former aide of a DAP assemblyman and former city councillor allegedly molested the victim at the car park of the entertainment outlet on Lebuh Pantai, where the waitress worked.

The woman, a private college student, told the media yesterday that the suspect even tried to pay her off to settle the incident quietly. – July 15, 2017.
