Penang proposes replacing fishermen's cash allowance with food subsidy card

THE Penang government has proposed that the Cost of Living Allowance (Cola) for fishermen, currently given as a cash handout, be replaced with a food subsidy card.

State Health, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry, and Rural Development Committee chairman Afif Bahardin today said the card will allow fishermen and their families to get food and basic necessities from selected stores.

  • That's the way to go.No more cash subsidies.Food subsidy cards only for certain basic food items from selected stores.Through this way it is more meaningful whereas cash subsidy can be misused for other means.
