Negri Sembilan Umno branch leaders quit party

TEN Rembau and Rasah Umno branch leaders and former branch leaders quit the party today, pledging support for the Pakatan Harapan government.

They were joined by 10 leaders from civil society organisations, including Gerakan Memartabatkan Pejuang Negara, Pertubuhan Perjuangan Rakyat Malaysia, Pertubuhan Permuafakatan Minda Sosial and Persatuan Foodtruck Batu 4 Port Dickson.

Major (rtd) Razali Zakaria, who is former Tasik Jaya Bandar Umno branch leader, under the Rembau division, in a memorandum for submission to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, said the group has expressed support for PH at both the state and national levels.

“We’ve also pledged to comply with the directives and regulations set by the PH leadership, and as pro-government civil groups, we will act as the eyes and ears of the people, providing assistance and upholding the policies outlined by the government,” Razali, who is also Gabungan NGO Sahabat chairman, told reporters in Seremban.

The other branch leaders who left Umno include Dataran Senawang’s Ramli Hamid, Ismail Ibrahim (Taman Maridah), Abu Hasman Yacop (Desa Tasik Jaya) and Muhammad Nizam (Kampung Sentosa).

Bukit Bintang Puteri Umno chief Naszriah Ngasri said the departures are “not a big problem”.

“The situation clearly shows which members are truly loyal to the struggle of the party. Our focus now is to restore the dignity of Umno,” she said in Kuala Lumpur.

Naszriah said she will not defend her post.

“Five years is enough. I want to make way for a new face.” – Bernama, June 23, 2018.
