Former Bank Negara assistant governor dies of cancer

FORMER Bank Negara Malaysia assistant governor Latifah Merican Cheong died of cancer last night. She was 67.

Latifah died at Subang Jaya Medical Centre about 10.15pm, surrounded by family members, said a relative.

She had been admitted on Monday after complaining of fatigue and pain.

The relative said the body was taken to Al-Mujahideen Mosque in Damansara Utama, and buried at the Section 9 Kota Damansara Islamic cemetery at 11am today.

Latifah, from Air Itam, Penang, became BNM assistant governor in 1998.

She had also served as adviser to the Securities Commission chairman, and was the president of the Malaysian Economic Association.

Latifah leaves behind husband Cheong Kwok Yew and their three sons. – Bernama, June 23, 2018.
