THE rest of the cabinet could be announced at the end of the week, said Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

“I asked the prime minister this question (today), and he said it will take some time. Most probably, it will be by the end of this week,” StarOnline reported the deputy prime minister as saying.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, on May 18, had announced the first 13 ministers. He is expected to finalise the others this week.

Dr Wan Azizah’s comments followed a meeting with Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia Dr Makio Miyagawa in Putrajaya.

She said Malaysia hopes to learn from Japan how to manage natural disasters.

“I understand Japan already has a comprehensive response system in the event of a major earthquake.

“Besides that, (we need) expertise on disaster-risk reduction to help us mitigate disasters from an early stage, as well as organise large-scale exercises to develop our disaster-response readiness.”

Dr Wan Azizah, who is also women, family and community development minister, added that matters relating to the ageing population and developing women’s leadership are areas in which Malaysia could seek support and assistance from Japan. – June 18, 2018.
