Don't fight for positions or wealth, Anwar reminds Pakatan

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim reminded Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders to stay true to the coalition’s goal to reform the country and not be distracted by fights over positions.

“Do not demand positions, wealth or power because that will jeopardize the entire spirit of the struggle,” Anwar said in a speech during a breaking fast ceremony at Nurul Hidayah mosque in Kampung Pandan Dalam, Kuala Lumpur this evening.

He accompanied his wife, Deputy Prime Minister and Pandan MP Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, to the ceremony.

“I said to the prime minister (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) that as an ordinary citizen, I will urge all the people to monitor how the deputy prime minister carry out her duties in Pandan.

“We will also monitor how (Selangor Amanah chief) Izham Hashim carries out his duties (as an assemblyman) in Pandan Indah,” said Anwar.

Izham and Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad were also present at the breaking of fast.

In a veiled dig at Umno and PAS on their call for Muslim unity, Anwar said unity is important but it must be for a righteous cause.

“It cannot be (unity) to steal the people’s assets or raise taxes that increases the people’s burden,” he said.

Dr Wan Azizah, who spoke before Anwar, reiterated the newly elected government’s responsibility to bring the country to greater heights.

“We must strengthen our inner strength and faith, and use our (newfound) freedom well,” she said. – May 27, 2018.
