DEPUTY Prime Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today urged residents in flood-prone areas to take precautionary measures following a warning of continuous, heavy rain in Terengganu and Kelantan until tomorrow.
Zahid advised them to obey the orders of the authorities in relation to flood safety measures.
“I pray and hope that this flood situation can be avoided and that it will not lead to a loss of lives and damage to property,” he said on Facebook today.
The Meteorological Department yesterday issued a warning of heavy, continuous rain in Terengganu and Kelantan until tomorrow.
Wet weather is expected statewide in Terengganu and in Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh, Gua Musang, Kuala Krai in Kelantan.
“… Signs indicate there will be heavy rainfall exceeding 60mm in a space of six hours,” the statement posted on Facebook read.
Continuous downpours are also expected in Kedah, Perak, Pahang and Sabah during the same period.
The affected areas are Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik and Baling in Kedah; Hulu Perak and Kuala Kangsar (Perak); Jerantut, Maran, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin (Pahang); and Ranau, Kota Belud, Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran, Sandakan and Kudat (Sabah). – Bernama, November 2, 2023.
