BERSATU will provide all the information and documents required by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) within the 30-day deadline, said party president Muhyiddin Yassin.

Bersatu is required to provide furnish minutes of meetings of its divisions and branches as well as financial reports, required by RoS under Section 14(2) of the Societies Act 1966.

“The notice was issued on February 28, but we physically received the letter on March 7,” Muhyiddin told a press conference in Johor Baru today.

“So our secretary-general (Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh) has sent a letter to the RoS asking when the final day for submission is,” he said.

Muhyiddin said the party is still in the process of finalising the membership numbers and annual general meeting reports. The party has completed its audit for 2016, while 2017 is still under process.

“There are other several matters that require clarification. Bersatu will obey what is required and we will pass the information within 30 days. There is still time.

“We have no issues, but there is a lack of clarity in some requirements. For example, the RoS said they said they received many complaints. We have sent letters to request from RoS, for copies of the complaints.

“We should be informed as to what the complaints are, so that Bersatu can take the appropriate action. We have not violated any rules, and we are not sure what was said. For us, this isn’t fair,” he said.

RoS director-general Surayati Ibrahim has said that should Bersatu fail to respond accordingly, the agency could order Bersatu to be dissolved under Section 14 (5) of the Societies Act.

Surayati confirmed yesterday that the Pakatan Harapan’s registration as a coalition has been delayed as investigations against Bersatu is still ongoing.

Bersatu is part of the opposition coalition which also includes PKR, DAP and Amanah.

The agency launched a probe against the party early last month following complaints that its annual general meeting held last year was unlawful. – March 24, 2018.
