THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is expected to charge Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan tomorrow, said news reports.

An MACC source confirmed the Tasek Gelugor MP has been arrested and will be charged in court tomorrow in relation to the Jana Wibawa programme.

In a statement, MACC said two individuals would be brought to the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court tomorrow.

The other individual is businessman Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad.

The arrests come days after former prime minister and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin was questioned by MACC over contracts awarded under JanaWibawa, a post-Covid programme to help highly placed Bumiputera contractors affected by the pandemic.

The investigation also resulted in MACC freezing the bank accounts owned by Bersatu.

Muhyiddin and other Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders have condemned the allegations, calling them malicious tactics to deprive the opposition coalition of funds ahead of the six state elections to be called this year.

“They call us thieves and pirates so that the people will not support us, but I believe that the PN wave we have already witnessed will continue flooding the country.

“There will be a backlash. The people will see the government’s antics as malicious,” he said.

In the Dewan Rakyat last week, Wan Saiful spoke of a smear campaign by the government against opposition leaders by bringing investigations against them.

“This is a diversionary tactic, because this unity government is desperate to cover up their failure to solve the people’s problems, as well as the widespread practice of nepotism in the administration,” Wan Saiful said. –  February 20, 2023.
