THE PKR-led Selangor government has reneged on its election promise to give free water to residents, said Hishammuddin Hussein, as parts of the state continue to experience water woes.

“They promised to provide free water to Selangor folk, but they can’t fulfil it,” the Umno vice-president told reporters at the Parliament building today.

“In fact, my house doesn’t have water. I’m the victim of their empty promises. And I’m the defence minister.”

The Selangor government provides 20 cubic metres of free water to households, but many people living in high-rise buildings do not get to enjoy the scheme because of the problems they face in changing bulk water meters to individual ones.

Hishammuddin was asked to comment on Pakatan Harapan’s offer of free water for Johor folk if it wins control of the state in the 14th general election.

He said Johoreans will not be swayed by empty promises.

“The advantage that we have now is that, they can’t fulfil their promises, so how can we believe what will be presented today?”

PH is due to launch its national manifesto for GE14 in Shah Alam today.

Water supply in the Klang Valley, which has been cut since Tuesday due to urgent maintenance works at the SSP3 treatment plant, will be restored in stages starting 6pm today.

Selangor Infrastructure, Public Amenities, Agriculture Modernisation and Agro-based Industry Permanent Committee chairman Zaidy Abdul Talib said Kuala Langat and Hulu Selangor can expect supply to be fully restored by 6am on Saturday, while for Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Gombak and Kuala Lumpur, 6pm on Sunday. – March 8, 2018.
