3 hurt after lorry rams into 9 vehicles on Elite Expressway

A LATEX-LADEN lorry crashed into nine vehicles at Km9.2 of the North-South Expressway Central Link (Elite) near Subang, Selangor, last night, injuring three people.

Selangor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department deputy chief Ahmad Izuddin Mohd Juhari said the accident occurred due to a faulty brake.

Two Bangladeshi nationals – a woman and 5-year-old girl – and a local 10-year-old boy were injured in the 11.44pm crash, he added.

He said initial investigation found that the lorry, which was heading to Tampin, Negri Sembilan, from Slim River, Perak, skidded and crashed into nine vehicles that stopped in the middle and right lanes due to road construction work in the area.

“The two children sustained injuries on the head and thigh and were rescued by personnel from the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Department.

“They were taken for treatment to Putrajaya Hospital.”

Izuddin said the 54-year-old lorry driver is assisting police in the investigation under section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said a team was rushed to the scene after receiving a call on the accident. – Bernama, May 13, 2022.
