HEAVY traffic is reported on major highways heading towards the Klang Valley as of 9pm today, as the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday draws to an end.

An increase in vehicles on the roads is expected by midnight, following the free toll provision on the East Coast Expressway and North-South Expressway from May 7 to May 8.

“There has not been any unusual congestion so far, but traffic is not as heavy tonight compared with the past two or three days,” said a Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) spokesman.

“However, we expect more people to begin their journey home, especially heading towards the Klang Valley, at midnight (due to free toll).”

The spokesman advised road users to follow the travel time advisory schedule to avoid congestion on highways.

LLM reported 4.4km of heavy traffic on the NSE (northbound) at Bukit Berapit heading towards the Bukit Gantang R&R and 12km of heavy traffic from Juro Auto City to Permatang Pauh.

Traffic is also slow on the NSE (southbound) from Bidor to Sungkai (26.3km), Bukit Berapit to Sungai Perak (18.2km), Ipoh Utara to Ipoh Selatan (25km) and Tapah to Bidor (4.5km). – Bernama, May 6, 2022.
