DR Mahathir Mohamad today advised students against bullying, saying being called a bully was nothing to be proud of.

The Langkawi MP said he was saddened by a bullying case in a school in his constituency, in which a group of Form Four students were arrested in connection with the assault of their peer.

“I am sad to read about this bullying case in a school in Langkawi.

“Bullying brings about gangsterism. Now this matter has become a police case.

“I hope that all the students involved realise and take note that bullying is not something to be proud of,” he said in a statement today.

Yesterday Langkawi police chief Shariman Ashari said 13 students were detained for assaulting another student.

“Five of those arrested are classmates of the victim while the rest are from other classes. Their statements are being recorded as part of the investigation,” Shariman said in a statement.

He said police had received a report on the assault of a 16-year-old schoolboy by several other students. A video of the incident was uploaded to social media. – April 28, 2022.
