THE detailed mechanism and implementation of the RM1,500 minimum wage will be announced soon, said Human Resources Minister M. Saravanan.
He said the move was agreed upon during a cabinet meeting on March 11.
“It is clearly in line with the government’s commitment to increase wages and boost workers’ well-being. It is expected to stimulate the economy via workers’ increased purchasing power,” he said in a statement today.
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob yesterday announced that the government will increase the minimum wage to RM1,500 a month, and that the move will be implemented for certain companies from May 1.
He said the new minimum wage will initially apply to only big firms and government-linked companies.
The minimum wage was last revised on February 1, 2020, when it was increased from RM1,100 to RM1,200 during the tabling of Budget 2020. – Bernama, March 20, 2022.
