MOE to scrap rotational classes before kids’ vaccination rate hits 100%

THE Education Ministry will not wait until the vaccination rate for children hits 100% to scrap the rotation system for face-to-face classes at primary schools.

Education Minister Radzi Jidin said the decision is made after taking into account the government’s plan to move the country to an endemic phase.

“We will discuss with the Health Ministry (MOH)... If the vaccination rate does not increase, for how long must we continue to implement the rotation system?

“When the time is right, we will scrap it (for schools) with an enrolment of more than 600 pupils.”

Radzi was replying to a question on whether his ministry will remove the rotation system for primary schools if the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme for Children hits a certain target.

The minister previously announced that Years 3, 4 and 5 pupils at schools with an enrolment of more than 600 can attend rotational classes for the 2022/2023 academic session, which will begin on March 21.

Radzi said his ministry is committed to ensuring more students can attend physical classes and providing a safe environment for them.

“We are working with MOH to facilitate the vaccination process for children aged 5 to 11.” – Bernama, March 7, 2022.
