THE Russia-Ukraine conflict will not adversely affect national food security, said Deputy Agriculture and Food Industries Minister II Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh.

He said Russia and Ukraine are not Malaysia’s targets for import and export, including agricultural products, adding that the two countries are also quite far from Malaysia.

“They are not major export or import countries for Malaysia. If we cannot carry out export and import with these two countries, we can switch to other countries.

“To date, we depend a lot on China and Thailand.”

In another development, he said the ministry has approved a RM45 million allocation for a long-term fruit farming development project for plantation infrastructure development, input supply and others. – Bernama, February 26, 2022.
