AT LEAST 85,000 tonnes of flood waste have been cleared in six states affected by the disaster as of yesterday, according to Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Ismail Abd Muttalib.
He said the clean-up operation in Pahang, Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor was 98% complete, and 90% complete in Johor.
He said a total of 438 tonnes of flood waste was cleared yesterday alone by SWCorp (SWM Environment Sdn Bhd), Alam Flora Sdn Bhd and E-Idaman.
“A total of 48,589 tonnes of flood waste was cleared in Selangor; 34,100 tonnes in Pahang; 1,400 tonnes in Negri Sembilan; 630 tonnes in Kuala Lumpur and 139 tonnes in Malacca.
“Meanwhile, in Johor, a total of 276 tonnes of flood waste was cleaned up as of yesterday,” he told reporters in Kampung Baru Lenga, Muar, today.
According to Ismail, during the post-flood period, the ministry had spent a total of RM118 million on rehabilitation programmes, including spending RM50 million on public facilities and RM50 million to repair and build new houses as part of the Rumah Kasih Keluarga Malaysia initiative.
He added that RM12.5 million was provided to local authorities for flood waste clean-up operations, and another RM5 million for disaster basket assistance.
“The ministry will also collect and update data, as there are several other relief centres still open and expects to increase the total allocation for this post-flood rehabilitation programme.
“The process of collecting and obtaining the latest data will also involve various parties such as district offices, local authorities and the Public Works Department,” he said. – Bernama, January 16, 2022.
