THE Home Ministry will study whether the police force needs to obtain new assets for it to deal with floods and other disasters. `

Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin said the existing assets, including helicopters and boats, were found to be obsolete as well as technologically outmoded.

“It’s when we want to help when we realise our assets, such as the boats that we have been using for a long time (are obsolete), (so) we want to find boats that are more suitable for flood disasters in the future.

“We also feel old assets such as helicopters are dangerous (for use) in a thunderstorm and heavy rain because they do not have instruments that can be adapted for floods or other disasters,” he said at a press conference after visiting the PDRM Flood Op Tactical Base at the Police Training Centre in Segamat today.

He said the flood situation this time provided his ministry an opportunity to re-evaluate the purchase of new assets so that relief work, including rescues, would run smoothly. – Bernama, January 14, 2022.
