DAP to vote against attempts to increase Covid-19 SOP fines

DAP today said it will vote against proposed amendments to the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988, which would increase the fines for offences under the act, in particular for failing to comply with Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP).

The proposed amendments – which had triggered heated debate and an eventual deferment of the bill when it was tabled last month in Parliament – would give the Ministry of Health discretionary powers to impose a maximum RM10,000 fine to an individual for breach of SOP.
