2,882 new Covid-19 cases

THE Health Ministry has reported 2,882 new Covid-19 cases over the last 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said with the latest cases, 2,764,354 people have been infected by the coronavirus since the onset of the pandemic.

The breakdown of cases according to states will be uploaded on the CovidNow website after midnight.

Up to yesterday, 22.9 million people or 97.7% of the adult population have completed their Covid-19 vaccination.

Based on the Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal, 23.2 million people or 98.9% of the group have received at least one dose of a vaccine.

Meanwhile, 87.6% or 2.76 million adolescents aged 12 to 17 years have completed the vaccination while 2.85 million others or 90.5% in this age bracket have been given at least one dose of a vaccine.

A total of 40,729 doses were dispensed yesterday, with 512 being the first dose, 754 as second dose and 39,463 as booster dose.

More than 57.7 million doses have now been administered under the national Covid-19 immunisation programme. – January 2, 2022.
