PRIME Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob must reset his cabinet given its disastrous performance in managing the recent floods, Mohamed Khaled Nordin said today.

The Umno vice-president said that the people have sent a clear signal about their displeasure with the current administration.

“The recent developments show that, as it stands, the current administration is no longer suitable for Malaysia,” he said in a Facebook post.

It is also time to cast away the weak Perikatan Nasional government that Ismail inherited, he added.

“Malaysia will continue to face unexpected environmental and economic crises. The country needs cabinet members who are accomplished and competent.”

Khaled also rubbished the 90% score given by Ismail to members of his cabinet for its performance in the first 100 days of his government.

“Their actions do not warrant the 90% awarded for their performance.

“The government must take this as a lesson, and their failure in managing the floods will not be forgotten by the people.”

The former Johor menteri besar said that floods also highlighted how Malaysia was more a society and less a state.

Continuous heavy rain lashed large parts of the Klang Valley from last Friday to Sunday, causing devastating floods.

Other affected states are Perak, Pahang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Malacca and Negri Sembilan, with waters reaching up to roof-level in many areas.

Malaysians mobilised to help flood-affected folk by coordinating rescue efforts and opening up their homes to shelter stranded victims.

Ismail’s four-month-old administration has been criticised for its slow response in helping flood victims. – December 26, 2021.
