ALL parties should be careful with what they say when commenting on the Federal Court decision on unilateral conversion in the M. Indira Gandhi case, said Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

He has hit out at the Malaysian Association of Muslim Scholars (PUM), which, in a statement posted on its Facebook page two days ago, warned that religious violence may erupt in the country if police continued to look for Muhammad Riduan Abdullah and his daughter, Prasana Diksa.

“All parties have to be careful with their statements, and have to be responsible for them.

“Our country has laws,” Fuzi told The Malaysian Insight, without elaborating.

The Federal Court had, on Monday, ruled that the unilateral conversion of Indira Gandhi’s three children to Islam by her former husband Riduan was null and void.

Fuzi had said police would track down Riduan and Prasana, and hand the child back to Indira Gandhi.

Both mother and daughter have been separated for nine years after Riduan ran away with the child.

PUM, in its statement, however, urged police to call off the search.

“We ask for the kind consideration of police not to hunt the father and the child until a solution can be found,” PUM president Abdul Halim Abd Kadir had said.

“We are concerned that if it is carried out, there is a possibility of conflict between religious adherents in this country that may spark violence in society.”

Police have yet to locate Riduan and Prasana.

Indira Gandhi’s lawyer, M. Kula Segaran, said the authorities should not stop looking for the father and daughter, as it was a court order.

“It’s already a circular, so they (police) must adhere to the stance.

The court has already found a final solution. So, what other solution is there to find?” Kula Segaran said, referring to the PUM statement.

He said since the issue was under the jurisdiction of the constitutional court, the authorities were bound by the ruling.

Earlier, Indira Gandhi had said she realised that her daughter was now a Muslim, and she respected the fact.

“I respect her decision, but as a mother, I need to see and hold her.

“We don’t know what had happened, and we don’t know what she looks like now. Seeing her is more important,” she had told The Malaysian Insight.

She had said she did not want the issue to become a religious matter. – February 1, 2018.

  • For the benefit of a multi racial country the words of the PUM scholars threatened the stability of the country for the BENEFIT OF A FEW. I JUST HOPE ALLAH WILL GIVE IGP THE POWER TO SUCCEED THIS ISSUE IN HIS GOOD OFFICE.

    • You are saying that because of the statement of the of the PUM, the mass displacement and killings of Rohingyas, which the UN General Secretary said is at risk of ethnic cleansing, is justified?

And also because of the statement, you say it justifies the continued illegal occupation of Palestine by Israel and the continuing of the illegal settlements building on Palestinian lands and also denying them of statehood?

Seriously, your statement is really deplorable. Your way of thinking is not much different from the PUM and the extremists.

  • PUM threat - is this the technique used the world over in part, for the rapid increase of the Islamic population? Is Islam a a religion of entrapment? Why do those whom no longer believe in it, are allowed to walk out of this religion?
