Stop blaming Anwar, Kit Siang says

Veteran politician Lim Kit Siang says in future, Pakatan Harapan should accept a unanimity rule for decision-making by its presidential council to avoid blunders such as accepting ‘political frogs’, which the pact had decisively rejected. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, November 22, 2021.

IT is wrong to place the blame squarely on Anwar Ibrahim for Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) defeat in the Malacca elections, but moving forward, the pact must act as a coalition of equals, Lim Kit Siang said today.

He said that in the new political landscape, no party could exercise political hegemony.

The Iskandar Puteri MP said for a start, PH should accept a unanimity rule for decision-making by its presidential council.

“Such a rule would deter the blunder Pakatan Harapan did, like accepting ‘political frogs’, which was decisively rejected in the Malacca elections,” he said in a statement.

Anwar has come under fire from various quarters over PH’s defeat in Malacca.

In the state elections, Anwar’s own party, PKR, lost in all the 11 seats it contested. The party won three seats in the last general election.

As for other PH component parties, DAP won four of the eight seats contested while Amanah scored one.

Many observers had blamed Anwar’s decision to accept two ex-Umno leaders into PKR and Amanah for the voters rejecting the pact.

DAP had firmly opposed the acceptance of these leaders.

Lim also said that PH, when it formed the government after winning GE14, had failed to explore the new coalition politics mindset in Malaysia, and was mired in the hegemonic Barisan Nasional mould which had existed for more than 50 years.

However, he also noted that it was counter-productive to zero in on Anwar by putting all the blame on him. – November 22, 2021.

  • It is not counter productive. Leaders must take responsibility. The biggest issue in the country is frog politics. A leader that cannot see that is worthless leader and should resign. There are many more competent leaders so why must we tolerate weak incompetent leaders who cannot take simple advice? More than time up for Anwar!

  • With all due respect the elders should pave way for younger blood to take the helm else the transition would not work well for the party and leaves lots of questions mark & doubtful to members & public at large. Elders should take the role of advisors.

  • LKS, with an attitude like that, perhaps you too should consider retiring.
